• Co-host Crime Prevention Seminars on personal & home safety with York Regional Police

 

• Held public seminars to listen to the opinions and concerns of the public, and to include them in the decision-making process

• Co-hosted the “Stop Crimes. Safer Community – Review The Canadian Criminal Code And Bail System Petition”: a public community safety forum on November 8, 2024 with Markham Community Alliance, where over 300 residents, police officials, and government representatives from all three levels discussed rising crime concerns (especially repeat offenders and bail issues). A petition with over 5,500 signatures was created that called for reforms to Canada’s Criminal Code and Bail System to better protect communities.

 

• Provided residents with regular updates through 180 weekly e-newsletters and annual newsletters, keeping the community informed about important York Region and City of Markham news, events, and developments.

 

• Assist residents in setting up Neighbourhood Watch Groups to promote the role of public security and monitoring in the neighbourhood 

 

• Economic Development (Learn More):

Received delegations from overseas to promote Markham's economy

 

• Oversaw the completion of the Victoria Square Water Park project, including the installation of a chess table in Frisby Park in 2013

 

• Advocating for portable toilets in all parks

 

• Advocated for an extra bus stop on Steeles Avenue close to Mon Sheong Court

 

• Successfully advocated for the installation of advanced left-turn signals at multiple York Region intersections, enhancing traffic flow and road safety.

 

• Supported the implementation of pedestrian crosswalks at key York Region intersections to improve pedestrian accessibility and safety.

 

• Followed up on the installation of bus shelters at York Region Transit stops, increasing comfort and accessibility for transit riders.

MAYOR'S CHINESE NEW YEAR DINNER (Learn More):

• Spearheaded the inaugural annual Chinese New Year Dinner in 2011 with the Mayor, and continued this tradition to connect with the Chinese Community and raise funds for those in need.

MARKHAM HELPING HANDS FOOD BANK DRIVE (Learn More):

• Organized this annual event from 2022-2025 after the COVID-19 pandemic in partnership with the Markham Fire Department and with the generous support of residents and businesses across the City of Markham to support the Markham Food Bank and help local families in need.

ALAN HO CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT (Learn More):

• Alan Ho spearheaded his annual Charity Golf Tournament in 2012 to raise funds for charity organizations and hospitals in the GTA

ANNUAL COMMUNITY EVENT (Learn More):  

• Alan Ho has hosted his successful community BBQ event every year since 2011. This day brings the community together to celebrate with food, music, performances, and family-friendly activities​

WORLD'S LONGEST DANCING DRAGON (Learn More): 

• Alan Ho organized the “World’s Longest Dancing Dragon” in 2012 with the help of more than 4000 proud Markham residents and volunteers. The dragon was an incredible 5.6 km long and set a Guinness Book World Record, putting the City of Markham on the world map​

MARKHAM GARDEN 150 (Learn More): 

• Alan Ho co-hosted the Garden 150 event in 2017 with the late Alick Siu, a proud Markham community leader, which celebrated the 150th Anniversary of Canada’s confederation by displaying the 150 most beautifully planted front yards in the City of Markham

MARKHAM ICE AND SNOW FESTIVAL (Learn More):

• Alan Ho visited the City of Harbin in China and brought back a team of Ice Sculpture Designers to participate in Markham’s 2018 Ice Festival

COVID-19 RESPONSE (Learn More):

• Alan Ho has secured and donated over 222,000 medical supplies and personal protective equipment to Markham Stouffville Hospital and nursing homes in Markham​​

“Your City, Your Services, Your Safety” (Learn More):

• a free community event hosted by Alan Ho at the Aaniin Community Centre in November 2025, featuring information booths from city services and a Crime Prevention Forum with York Regional Police to help residents learn about municipal services and improve community safety.

​

The Markham Job Fair (Learn More): 

• Organized a job fair on April 19, 2026, attracting over 500 job seekers who connected face-to-face with employers, including York Region, York Region Transit, Paramedic Services, Markham Fire and Emergency Services, and over a dozen local companies, providing valuable employment opportunities, especially for youth.
